The best local news of the week was when Katie Adams, director of Highland County Jobs and Family Services, told the Highland County Commissioners that not only will there be no need for an additional tax levy for Children Services, but they also don’t anticipate having to ask for more General Fund dollars to cover foster care placements.
This is quite a turnaround from recent years, when the county has had to give $800,000 or more each year to cover foster care costs, putting quite a dent in the county budget. Great work by Katie and her staff to turn things around. Only having to ask for a renewal of the current levy is a huge victory. Great work!
